Worldwide Christmas Scrapbooking Freebies 2013

Yes, it’s that time of year again… boy did this year flew by, or what?

The last few months I didn’t design a thing, lost my mojo, but I had to create something for our annual event.
I signed up for the Blogtrain at a wonderful forum: pixelscrapper.com and thought it best to combine the two as I didn’t want to scare away my mojo by designing two kits at once πŸ™‚

Many thanks to all the designers who contributed to this year’s WWCSF! It seems that more and more designers stop creating freebies and I can understand that. It’s a lot of work and people often grab the freebie without even saying thanks. But please know that I appreciate all the effort and I thank you from the bottom of my heart. It’s YOU who make WWCSF a success and I wouldn’t know what to do without you!

To see the complete list, please go to the Worldwide Christmas Scrapbooking Freebies Blog, where you’ll find links to lots of goodies, created for you by designers from all over the world!

And if you’re looking for a great, friendly (digital) scrapbooking forum, you’ll find it here: Pixelscrapper.com. Lots of freebies available and the December Blog Train is definitely one you don’t want to miss!

I’ve created some more goodies and will upload them later this month, so make sure to come back!

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire

Saw the movie last night and was a bit disappointed…

Positive first: the filming was so much better than the first movie. The wild camera movements in ‘The Hunger Games’ made me feel dizzy at some points. It was probably done to hide the bloody details and still show some action, but ‘Catching Fire’ – although it has fast camera movements – just seemed more realistic to me.

Jennifer Lawrence/Katniss – still not the Katniss I envisioned while reading the book, but I could appreciate her acting more in this movie (especially the last scene!)

Josh Hutcherson/Peeta – Definitely liked him more this time. I assume my ‘book Peeta’ is changing to the ‘movie Peeta’ since it’s such a long time ago that I read the books.

Donald Sutherland/Snow – Perfect in this one!! Friendly yet lethal and you could feel the fear when he stepped into a scene. I’m so glad I got it wrong in my first review. Sutherland is as brilliant as I knew he could be!

Sam Claflin/Finnick Odair – Well hello! Great addition πŸ™‚

Jena Malone/Johanna Mason – I didn’t know the actress but she seemed familiar and all through the movie I kept thinking: I know her… but from where? Now I know: Stepmom. I thought she was great as Johanna Mason, scary and you’re not sure if you can trust her, determined and skilled. Got my approval.

The scenery, the costumes, the book adaptation, all well done. The problem with the length of the book versus the length of the movie is a thing that will keep bugging me. There just isn’t enough time in a movie to get everything from the book covered. But that’s a given fact. The only thing that will solve that is to change my way of thinking and see the movie as a great addition to a book instead of the book being told in a movie, kwim?

But it’s hard to make that change in my head and I think that’s the biggest disappointment for me with this movie.

Manon and I discussed it afterwards and we came to the conclusion that Catching Fire is an awesome movie… if you haven’t read the books.
Still I would recommend everyone to read the books, there’s so much more in it. Situations described into detail on lots of pages instead of a in scene of 2 minutes or even less.

Much to my surprise I didn’t shed a tear, though I had goosebumps when Mags sacrificed herself and the scene where Katniss is forced to witness the killing of Cinna. But again, it was so much better in the book! It was clear in the book that Cinna was killed, but in the movie he was beaten up and then dragged away, still leaving the possibility open that he survived the attack (or is it all in my brains? Please tell me what you think!)

You could hear the disappointment in the audience after the last scene. People were ‘shocked’: ‘noooo this can’t be it’ and ‘you gotta be kidding, is this the end?’ were the things we heard most. Funny, because I remember that was what I thought when I finished the book
Mockingjay will be a two-part movie. Good decision IMHO, more time to tell the story!

To end on a positive note: If you keep the pros and cons in mind, go see the movie (Finnick alone is worth it – lol)

Polyvore Top Set

Been a hermit for the last months, long way to go yet but there’s a tiny light turning up far away, so there’s a change for the better.

Couldn’t be bothered to do anything, so I logged into my Facebook game account a lot and was content doing just that, until from somewhere deep down inside the creativity was calling again. Opened PSP but thought ‘nah’, and then I remembered my Polyvore account. That did the trick. Been creating sets like crazy, even worked ‘in advance’ and made about 20 sets for December!

Browsing through the sets at Polyvore I found out that there’s so much more than the fashion sets, which originally made me sign up. There are beauty sets, interior design sets and my favourite of all: art sets.
I joined several groups, which all have friendly competitions and for one of them ‘Harmony Restoration’, we were asked to create a set showing what moves us. I made one called ‘Tranquility’, featuring (of course) snow and my very own quote ‘When snow falls, nature listens’. I was amazed to find the quote at Polyvore – but that’s another story πŸ™‚

Today I logged in and noticed that I had over 50 comments … woah … went to check what it was all about and discovered that Polyvore picked my set as one of the top sets for October 15th!!!

It couldn’t come at a better moment, definitely needed some cheering up. Thank you, Polyvore πŸ™‚

If you’re on Polyvore, please leave a comment, so I can follow you. If you’re not there yet, do join, it’s a great way to spend some time Γ‘nd be creative!

To document this for future generations *wink* here’s my ‘Tranquility’

A(rtist) T(rading) C(ards), loved them from the minute I discovered them. But – as always – lacked the courage to create them myself. Problem is that I always compare my work to others and while I see things I know I can equal, many more artists are so much better than me. Why would I create something so-so when there are artists who create simply gorgeous things which I can never make?

The answer is simple: drive, urge, the need to at least try to turn my visions (so many ideas in my head) into something real.
So I sat down at the table, surrounded by all the gorgeous materials I’ve gathered (lifelong supply, I swear! Always buying stuff, never used it :p) and started to sort through the different papers and embellishments, so many options, which somehow makes the choice harder.

When I finally decided on a colour scheme, I started cutting and laying things out to see what it would look like. Got the courage to open up my glue bottle (glue and I don’t go well together) and attached the paper to the cardboard. Hmm.. that didn’t look bad at all.
Long story short, I inked, stamped, added lace, tiny roses, words, vintage postage stamps, buttons etc., until I had no idea what to do next and decided they were finished.

Maybe not as good as other cards, but they’re MY cards, my first paper creations and I am happy with them. Not thrilled, but definitly not thinking they should be in the dustbin either. Somewhere in between I guess.

But… I still need to finish the backside!

Favourite (Free) Fonts

Hello, my name is Antoinette and I’m a Font addict. Can’t help it and don’t want to be cured πŸ™‚

I have hundreds of fonts on my harddrive and every time I visit a font site, I’m still downloading more. There’s no such thing as too many fonts!

Having said that, I noticed that I’m using some of those fonts more often than others. Especially when it comes to journaling or creating Digital Scrapbook titles, I keep going back to the same fonts. So I thought I’d share 10 of them with you today πŸ™‚

1. Always Forever

2. Little Miss Priss

3. Parson-Condensed Bold

4. Sharonshand

5. Zonkershand

6. Kids First Print

7. Simply Glamorous

8. Dena’s Print

9. Painted

10. Worstveldsling

Have fun downloading, but make sure to read the TOU as most fonts are for personal use only! If you do want to use them commercially, make sure to buy a license.
